As mentioned previously, I’ll be offering a repeat of the Cork workshop at Mindfield this Friday. You can register here if you think you’d like to come along; it’s free!
The workshop is tailored toward absolute beginners, and starts with an introduction to Biology, Microbiology and Biotechnology, followed by a discussion on DIYbio and Amateur or “Indie” Biotech, an introduction to a specific bacteria I particularly like, and a chance for participants to actually start growing the bacterium then and there. Participants in the active part of the workshop (likewise free) are welcome to take their culture home with them to continue learning-by-growing.
After the practical element is concluded, there’s loads of time for a Questions-and-Answers, round-table discussion, ethics and opportunity debate, etc.
You do not need a ticket to come to Mindfield or to the Hackerspace tent, the 69 euro ticket mentioned on the Mindfield.ie website is a reference to an “All Access Pass”, a premium ticket of sorts. Mindfield events individually may require payment, however the DIYbio workshop does not.
